What is Gamification?

The official definition of gamification is:

The application of typical elements of game playing (e.g. point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, typically as an online marketing technique to encourage engagement with a product or service.

What is Vyper?

Vyper is an SAAS (software as a service) app for enabling viral contests and rewards programmes for your online users.

It installs on any website regardless of the technology you use and it allows for easy sharing of campaigns. Here is an example screenshot of what an end user of the app would see.

When the user clicks enter here they then see an overlay screen.

But the real “secret sauce” to this process is what happens next.

A few things standout including how you are able to set custom points for different actions. This is perfect for nudging people to your ultimate business goals whether that be signing up to a newsletter or growing your social media channels.

Vyper is one of the best tools for giving you the greatest chance of going viral but launching a giveaway is only the first step because the real success comes in how you promote your giveaway and these 7 growth hacks to boost Vyper are going to put you miles ahead of the competition.

Choose the Right Prize

It goes without saying that choosing the right prize is the most important factor to launching a successful giveaway. Sure there is the common sense advice of choosing a prize related to your niche but it is also helpful to think of your prizes in 4 broad time categories of Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly. A few thoughts

The first thing to notice about pricing is that you get a better deal of 30% off when signing up to an annual plan.

The other thing to keep in mind is participants which I feel Vyper have been generous by including 10,000 on their Pro plan which should be more than enough for even larger websites. If it was only 10,000 visitors that would be a different matter entirely.

One negative on this pricing is how you are forced into the Enterprise plan if you want to remove branding. This should automatically be an option for anyone who signs up to a paid plan. It is best practice to only allow branding for free plans. 

The free plan is a fairly new addition however to Vyper so maybe its only a matter of time before they also allow the removal of Vyper branding on the Pro plan.

Time will tell.

Are there Up-sells?

Thankfully, after choosing your desired plan there are no up-sells, they present you with an easy to follow on-boarding process to get your first viral campaign up and running ASAP.

Vyper Alternatives?

There is a notable competitor to Vyper in the form of Gleam which also has a free plan but a downside is that they are continually trying to sell you onto one of their premium plans and it does become tiresome.

Another option which originally was a WordPress plugin only but is now also SAAS is KingSumo by AppSumo – worth a look for sure.

The KingSumo option however is not as comprehensive in terms of actions as Vyper for example no FB Messenger and download app options to name some.

Then a brand new entry is a WordPress plugin called RafflePress which have a lifetime deal on offer but it only runs on WordPress sites.

When you take all of this into account the value to performance proposition of Vyper should become more clear.

But the best idea is always to try a free demo of each app and definitely the fully functional (no holds barred) free version of Vyper.


Do I recommend Vyper?
